A walk through San Sebastián

Four stops, from the street to the kitchen. Every stop is written out below, so the walk reads without the 3D.

An impression drawn for this site, not a photo of a real place. Sample, for Liz to approve.

How to walk

  • Press “Start the walk”. The scene is about 1.5 MB, so it never loads on its own.
  • Drag to look around. Tap or click the ground to walk there.
  • Keys: W or ↑ forward, S or ↓ back, A or ← turn left, D or → turn right.
  • On a phone, hold the arrows on the screen.
  • Use the list of stops to go from one to the next.
  • Press Esc or “Leave the walk” to come back to this page.

The stops

  1. La callethe street

Painted house fronts with shutters and balconies line the edge of the plaza.

    In Liz's words

Start on the street, under the balconies, and follow the smell of sofrito.

  2. La plazathe town square

A fountain in the middle, a church front to the north, a fritura kiosk, a piragua cart and a table of dominó.

    In Liz's words

In the plaza the neighbors gather, the way they do on the island.

  3. El bateythe yard

The yard behind the kitchen: a lechón on the spit, plantain plants, a hammock between two trees and a coquí on a leaf.

    In Liz's words

The batey is the old Taíno gathering ground, where the island's story begins.

  4. La cocinathe kitchen

A wooden kitchen with a wood-fired fogón, coffee on the counter, a pilón on the table, a radio and three empty picture frames.

    In Liz's words

And in the kitchen, Liz cooks what her family taught her.
